Motor Vehicle Department set up 17 squads to check vehicles in Kochi and other cities in Kerala.
If your vehicle is stopped and checked by Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) more often than before, do not be surprised. The Motor Vehicle Department has formed 17 special squads across the state to conduct regular check on vehicles and also to conduct road safety awareness classes to the public.
The squads which have 70 members, will be deployed in Trivandrum, Kollam, Kochi. Thrissu and Kozhikode. State has also made 56 new posts for the squads, ranging from Joint Transport Commissioner to Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors (AMVIs). The new officials, consisting of 34 AMVIs, 17 MVIs, 4 Regional Transport officers, and a joint Transport Commissioner are expected to be appointed within a month.
