Details of Ernakulathappan Utsavam 2012. 

The annual festival  of Enakulam Siva Temple usually falls during  the Malayalam Month Makaram (January/February )  extending for  8 days. The festival of the year 2012 is from 29th January to 5th February.

The Temple’s uthsavom starts with  hoisting of the temple flag (Kodiyettam)  on the first day evening.  Pakalpooram is on the seventh day . In this Pakalpooram the holy deity is  taken out in procession with caparisoned elephants with Panchavadyam  etc and finally terminating at Durbar Hall Ground.  There will be  Pandimelam and  other colourful fire works during this time. On the final day  is the ‘Arattu’  in the  evening, At this  solemn ceremony the flag is lowered and the deity is then taken for the Arattu ( holy bath ) in the nearby temple tank. After  this ceremony that starts the famous Arattu procession with the accompaniment of Panchavadyam. The procession ends  at Durbar Hall Ground. The grand  and beautiful fireworks then bring the curtain down to this week long festival.  On all the festival days  there will be  Sheeveli  arranged inside the temple and the best available and famous  Chendamelam artists will participate  in this .  There will  be also  special poojas in  connection with this festival  conducted everyday by famous priests from Chennose and Puliyannur Mana.  So many  cultural programmes are also arranged during these days. Special emphasis is given to promote temple arts like Ottanthuallal, Paatakam, Thayambaka, Kathakali, Classical dances, Classical music concerts, Bhajans etc.  There will be Annadanam  for the last days of the festival .  Thousands of people will participate in this Holy sadya.  Watching the Pakalpooram and Arattu and Vedikkettu  will be an unforgettable  and fantastic experience for anybody.
