Navy week celebrations 2011

Navy Day commemorates the
daring attack by Indian Naval Missile boats on Karachi harbour. The Naval institute of Aeronautical
Technology (NIAT) will conduct community services at Good Hope
Old Age Home, Fort
Kochi from Nov 24-26. The
service includes sprucing up the area and maintenance as well as providing the
inmates with lunch gifts. The Navy Children School Chair will participate in
entertaining the elderly inmates at Good Hope.
The Naval doctors from
INHS Sanjivani will conduct a medical checkup for the inmates, a Naval press
release said. The Operational Demonstration showcasing various facets of Naval
operations was introduced for the first time last year. The event held at
Rajendra Maidan and the adjacent Subhash
Park was appreciated by
all those who saw it.
The Operational
Demonstration will be held on Nov 27 at Rajendra Maidan seafront and Chief
Minister, Oommen Chandy, will be the Chief Guest. Marine Commando Sky Divers
are expected to conduct practice jumps from Nov 25 at Ernakulathappan Grounds
and Rajendra Maidan. The navy has asked the public not to throw food items and
other garbage near Rajendra Maidan from tomorrow till completion to ensure that
the Navy aircraft participating in the flypast are not endangered by birds.
The solemn Beating
Retreat ceremony will take place on Dec 4, Navy Day. Navy Ball and the Navy
Queen contest will be held on Dec 5. Navy fest will be held from Dec 9-11. Naval
warships and aircraft will be open to visitors especially school children on
those days. Another special attraction of the Navy Fest will be the Military
Photo Exhibition conducted by the photojournalists of Ernakulam.
