Kochi girl Oshin Mariam Varghese’s work will now feature in the official letterhead of the Secretary of State for International Development, UK.

After her design made it to the final 12 of the 2012 London Olympics commemorative stamp design competition, Kochi girl Oshin Mariam Varghese’s work will now feature in the official letterhead of the Secretary of State for International Development, UK.
The plus 2 student of Toc H Public School, Vytilla, has won the Christmas card design competition conducted by the Department for International Development (DFID). The two runners-up designs in the competition, which was open to schools around the world, came from the UK and Sierra Leone.
“She was nominated for the competition by her school which is now affiliated to the British Council. We got a letter from the Secretary of State Andrew Mitchell informing that she has won the fourth edition of the competition,” an elated father, Varughese Nainan, told Deccan Chronicle.
Oshin, who hopes to break into the final three of the Olympics stamp designing competition, said the theme was ‘True spirit of Christmas through sharing and caring’. “My work shows Christmas gifts being shared with orphanages and street kids and the joy brought by the arrival of Santa Claus. But I never imagined I would be lucky for a second time.”
The budding talent who loves to complete a drawing over a period of time than complete it instantly couldn't believe her eyes when she received the letter from the UK MP. “This will go a long way in encouraging the artist in me,” said Oshin.
Recalling Oshin's passion for drawing from a tender age, mother Susan Varghese said: “As a three-year-old, she would draw perfect circles. Once in a competition she was asked to draw a flower. She didn’ t win a prize as she couldn’t limit her to drawing one flower and drew ten.”
