The Durbar Hall Ground will soon get anew look. District collector P I Sheik Pareeth said here on Tuesday
that the beautification work to convert the ground into a theatre of
international standard would begin on December 30. The department of tourism
has pledged an assistance of Rs 1.40 crore for the project. The beautification
work is estimated to be completed with Rs 1.40 crore, for which the department

The stage on the ground will have a
state-of-the-art projector and sound and lighting arrangements. It will also be
restructured to facilitate screening of 70 mm film with digital effect. Its
height will be increased to ensure visibility from any part of the ground. A
green room will be set up alongside the stage, which will have a traditional
roof. which will be based on Kerala's traditional architectural methods.
An aesthetically-designed walkway that will
bend over the stage will be one of the major attractions of the project. The
whole project aims at converting the Durbar Hall ground into an excellent
theatre with inputs from technical experts from the film industry.

The collector visited the ground to review
the technical aspects of beautification. Earlier, he held discussions with minister for
tourism AP Anil Kumar and
Hibi Eden, MLA. The district collector will ensure that cultural programmes
will be held here on a daily basis and provisions will be made to screen movies
on weekly basis.
